Here for you since 1987
Our mission at B&W Engineering is clear: With enthusiasm and expertise, we drive technical innovation, combine modern developments with proven traditions and constantly set new standards to exceed expectations! The B&W foundation of our claim: satisfied customers and satisfied employees.

Always traditional and innovative
At B&W Engineering, we look to the future and develop products that are not only innovative, but also sustainable. Our work culture is characterized by a strong sense of community and continuous development. We create an environment that is inspiring and connecting. This culture is the foundation of our constant evolution and commitment to creating future-proof solutions.
Our development activities are aimed at making your projects market-ready and future-oriented, with innovation and sustainability as our core values. We are passionate perspective openers and proactive co-thinkers. Our openness to new things and our desire to constantly learn drive us to develop innovative solutions for our customers. We attach great importance to collegiality and flexibility, which is reflected not only in our teamwork, but also in our cooperation with customers – we are your responsible partner who combines competence with a personal touch.
On 1 April 1987, Michael Blumenstein and Gerhard Wiegelmann turned their vision into reality and founded B&W. Initially focused on training and consultancy to integrate the latest technologies in engineering, B&W soon attracted large automotive corporations as customers. The recognition of their achievements led to customers increasingly entrusting B&W with direct development projects, marking the beginning of their successful project work.
At that time, Mr. Wiegelmann won over a young and motivated group of friends from Gerlingen for the cause. It was already shown back then how much added value it has to take on interesting tasks and then carry them out in a familiar and friendly atmosphere! This ‘core team’ of B&W contributed significantly to the first major successes and at the same time decisively shaped B&W’s work culture. We consider ourselves fortunate that these colleagues are still working in the company today and anchor the new generations in this spirit! Mechanical development in automotive and power tools
In the first few years, contact with the Bosch Group had a strong impact on B&W’s service portfolio: We acted as an extended workbench for the automotive and power tools divisions and supported the ‘internals’ in mechanical development. In this cooperation, our core values were further formed: We consistently set a high level of quality, gladly took responsibility and remained close to people. Our customers reciprocated all this with trust and a business relationship at eye level. This means a true win-win situation for us to this day! Entry into electronics development
It quickly became apparent to our customers that, in addition to mechanics, development support in programming would also be important. Thanks to new, motivated employees, B&W has succeeded in entering software development (at that time focused on transmission controls). Shortly afterwards, the hardware followed. Since then, we have been able to offer our customers complete product developments. And we bring with us the mindset of “thinking and thinking in the system”, for which our partners still appreciate us today.
In addition to automotive and power tools, the company entered the field of medical technology, which is now one of the company’s core areas. With this positioning, we would like to emphasise that we see it as our responsibility to develop products that significantly contribute to a higher quality of life for end users.
Since 1997, we are located in our own buildings in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and thus had a good basis for the construction of sample and test workshop as well as an electronics laboratory. These became necessary as our customers placed more and more trust in us when it came to test stand construction, verification and validation, and the number of orders in this area increased.
We have found numerous new customers in Austria and Switzerland in the field of medical technology. Opening a new branch south of Stuttgart was therefore an obvious step. We were able to recruit Michael Rauscher, who had also moved in that direction for personal reasons, as branch manager. This is how the new branch came about: in 2008, we founded B&W Engineering Schweiz GmbH.
Over the years, it became increasingly important to us to have a presence in the centre of Germany. We saw partnerships with medium-sized companies like ourselves as the best way to create synergies. Our colleague Joachim Schütz drew our attention to the Fulda region, his old home town. A gratifying convergence of interests! Joachim Schütz took the initiative to return to his old ‘location’ and build a new location for B&W. And so we founded the Fulda branch in 2011.
At the beginning of the 2010s, B&W could already look back on long-standing customer relationships in the automotive and medical technology sectors, on numerous satisfied partners, on established know-how and on a committed workforce. All of this has enabled a rise to a new level of performance. An important element in this is our involvement in research projects, which has led to the start of international and cross-company collaborations. We continue to use this opportunity to expand our expertise and keep our finger on the technological pulse.
At the beginning of 2015, we founded B&W Embedded Solutions GmbH to meet the demand for qualitative and quantitative growth in the software sector. However, at the beginning of 2020, it became clear that the disadvantages of having two separate companies significantly outweighed the advantages, and B&W Embedded was merged with B&W Engineering. We returned to the ‘one-stop shop’ model with renewed vigour.
In 2021, there was a generational change at B&W. Mr Gerhard Wiegelmann, who ran the company for 34 years, has decided to retire. We wish him all the best and thank him for his many years of commitment! Our new managing director is Mr Sven Siefert, who has already proven his leadership skills as team leader, CTO and authorised signatory. Good luck – for us, together!
We are pleased that you have read our company history to the end. It is even more gratifying if you have found events in our history that have sparked your interest. This is a sign of shared values. And we believe that good cooperation is built on a shared way of thinking and mutual respect. Shall we take the next step in our company history together?
Our services at B&W Engineering cover every step of your project. From requirements management and innovative concept development to system development and effective project management – we have everything under control. Our risk management experts ensure that your path to success is safe. With our support in industrialization and production, your product is not only developed, but also realized. ‘The knowledge within a company is a dynamic system. From the outset, B&W has placed great emphasis on making this system accessible to all colleagues. Accordingly, we maintain an open culture of questioning and organise our time together at B&W in such a way that nothing stands in the way of these synergies.’
